Parachute’s Downtown Revitalization Gains Momentum with Federal Funding

The Town of Parachute has secured a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support the reconstruction of 1st Street, a key component of the town’s downtown revitalization plan. This funding, facilitated by U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, aims to modernize aging infrastructure and enhance safety along the corridor.

Mayor Tom Rugaard emphasized the project’s importance, stating, “Revitalizing downtown has been a shared vision for our community for a very long time, and this funding moves that vision much closer to reality.” The 1st Street project has been a strategic priority since 2022, involving extensive public engagement and planning, culminating in the adoption of the Downtown Master Plan in 2023.

With the project currently at approximately 60% design completion, the town continues to collaborate with the Colorado Department of Transportation and other partners to finalize plans and secure additional funding. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027 or 2028, pending further developments.

Community members are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming events related to the project. For more information, visit the Town of Parachute’s official website.
